Time

Somehow, throughout the years, I've learned to live in a space of contentment no matter what's happening in my life and in the world. I think I've just let go of a lot of ego. And I just appreciate living. If you had told me when I was 17 that I'd feel like this at 44, I'd have said: "Yeah, right."

This is Liz's daughter Rikki, the Queen of Teenage Angst, and I think this picture captures that beautifully.

French Synth Pop from the Eighties

Mp3: Marie Möör - Pretty Day

Tuesday

TJ Max has a bunch of smoked wild Alaskan salmon for less than half the normal price. Strange what you can find in that store. Anyway, I snapped up a bunch of it.

Brighthouse is going door-to-door promoting their bundle packages (digital TV, internet and phone). My mom has been paying about $65 a month for phone alone, so I assured her that this new package was a deal. Plus, she bought a digital TV months ago and has been watching it with an analog cable signal, so she should see an improvement in image quality. They throw in free HBO, too.

Here's a link to my niece's Facebook and a video of my brother-in-law, who's deaf, playing piano:

It snowed another 5 inches here today.

Mary and I are playing raquetball in about an hour.

Rex

I'm learning how to play guitar. Rex, a resident at The Crossings, brings his Gibson electric guitar in along with a small amp and shows me chords. It kills your fingers and some of the stuff you have to do with your left hand is downright arthritis-inducing, but what a cool instrument. I'm gonna pick a song and work on it as soon as I have the four basic formations down. Right now though, I'm tellin' ya, the fingers on my left hand are buzzin.' I think it's very cool that Rex teaches for free. He told me that he's taught about thirty people how to play and he never takes any money for it. And he's a good teacher. His thirteen-year-old daughter Carly is lucky to have him as a dad. She plays, too.

I don't think you're supposed to grab stuff from the Post Secret site and do with it what you want, but this I couldn't resist:

Raising Sand

Met Anna downtown yesterday for lunch. I brought a CD I had burned for her -- Raising Sand by Robert Plant and Allison Krauss. Turns out, she had burned the same CD for me! What a co-winkie-dink.

Sad and Beautiful

Atonement_200709241654_3 Kiera Knightly in the movie Atonement? Smokin'. Loved it. There's one scene where the camera is working its way through the mayhem of WWII that's very Fellini-like -- half circus and half wreckage. Here's a link to the Trailer.

The Surpreme Court and Women

Nina Totenberg from NPR will be lecturing at the Mendelssohn Theater in Ann Arbor on Thursday about the impact of the Surpreme Court on women. I'm goin'. I think it's something that my mom and Marilyn's mom would find interesting, too, so I'm going to see if they want to go.

Jodie Foster doing an interview in French:

Hey, Viv: Is she making any mistakes at all? Sounds pretty perfect to me.
