I did, on a light note, sell my car, which everyone seemed to think was impossible, for 800 bucks. And I sold it with complete honesty. The guy who bought it works on Hondas and is going to rebuild the engine for his sister (her first car). How sweet.
Found out this week that my favorite student is moving back to Japan (earlier than expected because of the economy here). I've been meeting with him three times a week and we were just getting ready to start a new book, so it's a bit of a financial blow to me. Oh well. The new job, taking care of Pam, helps buffer that. The additional income has come in handy. That said, hanging out with Pam for four hours five days a week is surprisingly draining.
Last night we went to Detroit for the tree-lighting ceremony and Lora's car was broken into. They bashed her rear window. Now, that's a prime way to ring in the season. It will probably cost her about 500 bucks to fix it so I told her I would split the cost with her. Afterall, I'm the one who was too cheap to put it in a five dollar lot (we drove separately). I found meters for both of us, but ... well, what can I say? Lora hates Detroit even more than she ever did now.
